Decision made!

In my case, this educated decision is based on previous experiences. It seems to me that - in the life of a waverersecond choices often turn out to be the best ones.

Well, actually, it's more of a third choice this time, but anyway... :-)

In this spirit - SLOW TOURISM it is and it's approaching quite in the opposite mode of slow. But I'm finally happy with my topic!

P.S.: Thanks loads to all the kind people who helped me out with smart advice - you guys definitely sealed the deal.

Confused...

Typical... at first I couldn't find a topic at all, then I had three to choose from and now that I had to make a decision, I am very unsure whether that was the right one.

Ok, let's take one step back. Shortly before the draft proposal deadline, I got some help from a good friend of mine, who is in tourism as well. Since I wasn't too satisfied with my previous idea of tourist motivations, he gave me some inspiration and we came up with two other idea. Both of them are completely different, except the fact that they all focus on London as a tourist destination. Let me quickly present all three ideas:

1)
The Magic of London as a Global City
An analysis of push and pull travel motivations of European tourists to London
(Quantitative research approach)
For this one, I would conduct an online survey amongst Europeans having travelled to London. I would try to find out what motivates them to visit London and identify, analyse and evaluate the push and pull factors.

2)
MICE Destination Analysis
Case Study: London
(Qualitative research approach)
For this one I would try to get in contact with experts from the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry in order to investigate why London is not in the top 5 of European MICE destinations.

3)
Slow Tourism - A Paradox in the Global City of London?
(Qualitative research approach)
Slow Tourism is a quite new form of tourism and therefore definitions of the term are still quite varied or even broad. In general, one could say that slow tourism comprises a range of trends and themes in tourism, such as sustainable and responsible tourism. The purpose is to create authentic tourist experiences. As far as I understand, it also comprises the discovery of 'everydayness' in tourism; experiencing local culture in the form of everyday life.
Now the question would be whether this kind of tourism is even possible in such a fast-paced environment in a global city like London. In order to find that out, I would conduct in-depth interviews with e.g. 'couchsurfers', who stay with locals during their travels.

Due to the fact that I would like to work in the business travel sector once I've completed my MA, I chose for the second idea of London as a MICE destination. In a professional way of thinking, this probably makes perfect sense.

Nevertheless, I am also very interested in the idea of everydayness in tourism and would be curious to find out more about slow tourism.

Now, I have to make up my mind... ASAP!!!
